Returns & Cancellations

Our approach

At A N H Motorhouse, we want every customer to feel confident when choosing their next vehicle. We take care to describe our vehicles accurately, prepare them properly, and give customers the opportunity to ask questions before purchase.

Because vehicles are high-value used goods, returns are handled differently from ordinary retail items. This page explains our position in a clear and fair way.

Nothing on this page affects your statutory rights.

In-person purchases

If you buy a vehicle in person after viewing it, inspecting it, test driving it, or agreeing the purchase at our premises, you do not usually have a legal right to return the vehicle simply because you have changed your mind.

However, if you have any concerns after purchase, please contact us as soon as possible. We will review the matter fairly and explain the next steps.

Any goodwill return, exchange or cancellation outside your statutory rights is at our discretion and must be agreed by us in writing.

Distance and off-premises purchases

If your purchase is completed entirely at a distance, such as online or by telephone without visiting our premises, or away from our premises, you may have cancellation rights under the Consumer Contracts Regulations.

Where these rights apply, you usually have 14 days from the day after delivery to tell us that you wish to cancel.

If a cancellation is accepted under those rules, the vehicle must be returned to us promptly, with all keys, documents, accessories and items supplied at handover.

The vehicle should be returned in the same condition as supplied, allowing only for reasonable inspection. A lawful deduction may be made if the vehicle has been used, damaged, altered, or handled beyond what is necessary to inspect it.

Faults and statutory rights

If you believe there is a problem with your vehicle, please contact us as soon as possible.

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, a vehicle sold by a motor trader must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described.

For a used vehicle, this is assessed by taking into account its age, mileage, price, condition, history, description and any information provided before purchase.

A used vehicle is not expected to be the same as a new vehicle. Normal wear and tear may be expected, but the vehicle must still meet the legal standard required for a vehicle of its type, age, mileage and price.

First 30 days

If a fault appears within the first 30 days and the vehicle does not meet the standards required by law, you may have the short-term right to reject the vehicle.

We may need to inspect the vehicle or ask for evidence of the fault before confirming the appropriate outcome.

After 30 days

If a fault is reported after the first 30 days, we will normally have the opportunity to inspect the vehicle and, where appropriate, provide a repair or replacement.

If a repair or replacement is not possible, is unsuccessful, or cannot be completed within a reasonable time, you may be entitled to a further remedy in line with your statutory rights.

What is not usually covered

You will not usually be entitled to return a vehicle or receive a refund where:

  • you simply change your mind after an in-person purchase;
  • the issue is fair wear and tear for the vehicle's age, mileage and condition;
  • the fault was clearly explained before purchase;
  • the problem has been caused by misuse, neglect or accidental damage;
  • the vehicle has been modified or repaired without authorisation;
  • the issue has been caused by poor maintenance after purchase.

Each case will be reviewed on its own facts.

Warranty

Warranty cover is separate from your statutory rights.

Where a vehicle is supplied with AA Warranty cover or another warranty product, that warranty may help with the cost of certain covered repairs, subject to the warranty terms, exclusions and claim limits.

A warranty does not replace your legal rights and does not remove the responsibility of A N H Motorhouse as the selling dealer where your statutory rights apply.

Please see our Warranty page for more information.
